Feel the life in youth, or FLY, is one of the youth groups as part of the Western Sydney Chinese Catholic community (WSCCC). Combined with youth from Asiana centre in Ashfield and St. Dominic’s in Flemington, FLY is a fun and interactive space
for young Catholic people to gather and learn more about
FLY at Flemington church runs fortnightly English mass on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, beginning at 11am
in the hall. This gives an opportunity for all youth who are less fluent in Mandarin to understand and engage in mass. The masses are run by the leaders of FLY with the help of young people to take part in readings, singing and sharing their thoughts. This allows for more inclusive masses, through expanding the capacity of FLY leaders to reach young people to better build their connection with Jesus. Commonly after English mass, the leaders hold sessions of games and have
bible study, specifically catered for year 7 and above students. These sessions allow the youth to build closer friendships with each other and to deepen their understanding of the bible.
FLY also organises activities and events for the group to build closer friendships. Every year, FLY performs at the Church Christmas party at Flemington, entertaining the community
with lively performances. For example, in 2016, the girls performed a festive stick dance to “We Three Kings” and in previous years, FLY brilliantly acted the story of the Nativity. FLY also holds picnics at the local park, where we play
sports, games and hold bible study sessions.
So, are you interested in coming along to see what FLY is
all about? We are a warm and welcoming bunch of students who would love to see you at our next mass, FLY session or group activity!
